Background: Those two corals have been with me for 6 years or so.

The Pocillopora colony was grown from a 1" frag. The turbinaria was grown from a small whorling colony, maybe 5" wide.

They both were taking up too much space in my reef. I want the space to grow out my better corals. That's the one problem with having 60-70 corals. Space. Even with a 300G tank, real estate is a premium.

They were ever bigger that I thought. I had a 5 gallon bucket with water in it to recieve the turbinaria and was shocked when it wouldn't fit. Same with the Pocci. Good thing I had a cooler around.

I am go to do a little bit of re-aquascaping in the next couple of weeks to give my prize corals the premium space in my tank. They now have a little bit more breathing room :D

No sympathy for you, I should have such problems /Cranky soupnazi-ish voice

;) Seriously, what did you get in trade?

Since these pieces are something he doesn't deal in every day, they are there on consignment. I'll get half of whatever he sells them for. He's going to ask for $250 each for the pocci and turbinaria, and $120 for the frogspawn.

Oh. I forgot, I took my mother colony of frogspawn in too. It was in a separate 5 gallon bucket. It was never really happy in my 300G. Too much flow and light for it's liking.

Well, I have this same LFS working up a price for a new custom sump for me. If his price is good, I'll apply the credit towards that. I suspect the sump will cost $600 - $1000.

I already have a price from Lifereef, so I figure that is the upper end of what it should cost.

How long did it take for you to grow those out? Your tank is fairly new, so the growth seems amazing!

My Pocillopora got big in a hurry. It takes up too much room in my tank and I keep thinking of fragging it up... but that consignment idea is cool unless your LFS kills it 8O

Fragging up means I'll have even less room and Pocillopora aren't that popular in the Bay Area that I'd be able to get shot of them.

Let us know what they fetch though.

sfsuphysics, you can have mine for 200$ and it's just a short drive down to San Jose so... no shipping!

That'll be his starting price. He's not really all that hopeful to find a buyer for a pocci that size.

But it's not every day you find a colony that size of anything for sale. Someone, probably a noob that doesn't want to wait, who needs instant gratification in his new tank, who has money out the wazoo, might just buy it. I can hope. ;)

Half of what he sells it for doesn't seem like a good deal either. I usually get at least 3/4 of what they sell stuff for in credit when trading stuff in. After all, it's going towards the stuff there, anyways, and you always end up spending much more, you know?

You could always lurk in the fish store and when a potential buyer shows up to get the pocci and finds out it's worth more than the light that is shining on it, you can make your move and sell him one of your pocci frags for 30 bucks! :D

Lucky you, Ive heard that 30% of retail is the going rate for trade-ins. That is what I've recieved in all three of my favorite LFS in Seattle.

Louey, If the frogspawn took a 5G bucket, How many heads did it have? It must have been huge as well. I remember a while back you were stating that the pocci was your plague coral and you didnt like it any more. Good ridance. :D Even if you get only $50 for it you'll be better off. You still have 40 baby colonies.

30% retail is ridiculous! You buy a $50 dollar tang, raise it for 2 years, and then have to trade it back in because, let's say, it's conflicting with another fish, and they give you $15 store credit for it?! That sucks...

I didn't count them. But I am sure it is probably 15 - 20. And yes, in a lower flow tank it would expand and be quite huge. It was my money maker when it was in my old 75G. It was happy there.

You sir, are correct. This colony would have ultimately became a yard pet if I couldn't sell it.

I'm getting rid of the babies too. I started the pocci baby eradication project last weekend. I cut all of the colonies that are growing on my rock on the front side of the tank last weekend. I buried what was left on the rocks in epoxy, so they don't grow back. I am going to do the back side of the tank and the bottom over the next few weeks. I bought 3 tubes of AquaStik putty for this. I'll need more.

BTW, if anyone wants a free colony of pocci, come and get it. I'll give them to anyone who can come and get them. Frankly, I don't think they're high value enough to justify the cost of shipping.
