What else that is interesting is the coral has not grown at all area wise, but has gotten atleast twice as thick as when I first got it.

That is how my monti cap grows as well. Grows very thick and down. Mine has grown in size as well, but it is from 1/8 inch to almost 1/4 inch thick. All my monti cap is like that. I gave a piece to a friend and it whorled in his tank.

Both are under 250 watt DE reeflux 10kk almost all the way at the bottom of my 26" tall tank.

Waz, I think it has to do with flow (the growth pattern). Check out the Cap growth pattern on this local guy's tank:

He attributes his to his flow mostly coming from the top down. And the most chaotic part is in the middle.

That is an odd growth in that guy's tank. I think mine is an encrusting issue. When I first mounted it was attached at only a small contact area. IMO the frag is reaching for the rock since it knows it's there.
