Hi all, Just thought I would update on the percula clown ive kept with no anemone . I went and bought an anemone but my clown was in no way interested in it, so i went and bought one of the lfs clowns that was hosting in the same anemone that i bought, as soon as i put the new clown in the tank they both went for the anemone, seems all the old clown needed was a little competion, they both get on really well , one is brown and one is orange. Also I have noticed in the last two days that the anemone is looking a bit off colour? If there is any temperature changes in the tank can this affect the anemone at all? its just that I don't have a chiller and the heat here in brisbane australia has been all over the place lately. Im paying a chiller off at the moment and hope to have it home in the next few weeks :D .

any thoughts or info very welcome!Tnx Blue tang

What do you mean by a bit off color BlueTang?

Deflated? Insides pushed out of mouth?

Also helpful if you could let us know your latest test results, what lighting you're keeping it under, other tank specs (size, protein skimmer, bioballs (hopefully none) etc.

Temperature may be playing a role, but useful to rule out other causes as well. What range has the temperature fluctuated within?

Yesterday when I posted about the anemone off colour i had not tested the water, seems that the nitrate was around 20ppm, I did a water change straight away it,s down to 10ppm so ill do another tomorrow. Also there seemed to be a little ammonia in the water as well, could this affect the anemone ? I did have a hair algae problem but it seems to have mostly gone , could this have caused an ammonia spike as it died off? Also i do not have any phosphate remover in the tank, is this a good thing to have as well? LFS guy says it pays to have some! Also I lost an Auriga butterfly two days ago , Nitrite too high Right? All I want to do is too get my tank up to scratch and provide the fish with a great , HEALTHY , home! Ill do some more tests and get the results to you as soon as possible, Tnx Blue tang

Sounds like that may be the root of your problem. Keep up with the water changes until you get your results to a good level.

You also need to work out the root cause of the high nitrates. It could have something to do with the algae, but there a number of other possible causes, including inadequate filtration, overfeeding etc.

What protein skimmer do you have? How much live rock? How much do you feed? Also, how long has the tank been set up?

Also let us know what sort of lighting you have and what output.

Thanks,

Tom
