I'm going to be sticking two of these outside of a tank/cabinet...chief concern is noise. How quiet are they?

As quiet as a pump with a fan can be. The fan is audible, but it's quieter then an equivalent iwaki with a fan. I personally wouldn't recommend having one out in the open in a room that you plan on spending a lot of time in (work room, tv room, etc.). It's really not noisy, but its presence will be noticed.

I have one as a return and it is noticeable when you start it but it doesn't bother us. We only get bothered if something knocks my standpipe out of balance.

Len, a guy at my reef club today mentioned that he had two panworld 50PX-X fail on him. They both started to not come back on when unplugged and plugged back in, and he called the manufacturer. They said to send it back to fix the seal (I think) and he bought another one to use while the first one was gone. Second one did the same thing and when he sent that one in he was so frustrated that he just plugged his drain and dropped an internal pump in there as return until he finds a different external. Have you heard of anyone having problems with them?

I also want a quiet return pump so I'm definitely all ears. I had considered the 100PX-X model or the 50PX-X. :)

I've never had this type of failure with either the PanWorlds or Iwakis which they copy. Have him consider a Iwaki then. I've used them for nearly 2 decades without a single problem. But so far, my Panworld has been flawless.

I have a panworld 50px-x. I was using it for a closed loop for about 6 weeks. However, because my stand was open back, and the living room is small, it ended up being pretty loud. The fan makes a high pitched whirrrrrr. I had to turn the tv up about 5 notches so I could hear it. I wouldn't recommend using any of the external pumps outside of a closed space - otherwise noise will be an issue. I still have my 50px-x if you're interested.

How much? :)

What are you using for a pump now?

I'd like to get $100 - but that's negotiable. Its basically new. PM me if you're interested.

I ended up buying 2 tunze nano streams. Very cool because of that magnet holder. Plus, I like the dispersed flow. Just wish I could use a controller on them .

I wish I could have kept the panworld though. Flow was great through 4 outlets using Omni Flex Nozzles. No problems. Just provided a bit more flexibility with flow - and no wires in the tank. :D

I like mine. Like Len said it has a bit of fan noise. The smaller units do no have a fan IIRC.

Give me a couple of weeks and I'll let you know about buying the pump from you. It's a long haul from CA to GA, though. :)

But how do you feel about the ominiflex nozzles? What do they do for you besides position flow? Are they basically like loc-line?

I've never used loc line, but the omni ones are made out of what looks like schedule 80 grey PVC. Each "bend" has a rubber gasket on it to prevent leaks. I got 2 different kinds. I got one set to screw into 1 inch bulkhead fittings I install on the top of the tank. The other 2 screw onto a 1 inch fitting. Anyhow, they worked super good with the panworld pump. The closed loop and panworld just didn't work out for my situation...unfortunately  . Just PM me if your interested.

Sorry about the thread hijack....

Get a Sequence pump. Those are dead silent, however, it is a flow pump. So the application is off. So a pressure rated pump like an Iwaki or a Blueline would best suit the application at hand. I personally have a BlueLine (Panworld) pump. I do like them. They are quite. I run two 1750 GPH pumps for my 120.

Well they were going to be in my TV room up until today. But now they're going in my cubicle...so PanWorld it is. :D

Yup! Oh man do I miss having a tank at a job like this. There's a super DI system and test kits for every chemical imaginable 10 feet from it.

Weird this topic came up......

I purchased a PanWorld 200PS-MD70R External Water Pump - 1750gph for my new 210 from Premium Aquatics (more pictures to come.....I finally got rocks and fish in there). Jason has always been on the up-and-up with me...so I'm inclined to ask questions before I got and contact him.

The entire system is dead quiet except for the stupid PanWorld. It sounds like a big, fat fan is running inside my stand. No resonance, no vibrations, so neoprene and mouse pads won't fix it.

But it sounds like a big, giant fan.....like the kind my grandma used to run in her house (3' feet tall..box fan).

ssssssssssshhhhhhhhhhhhrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.........that's all I hear.

I'm trying to figure out if I have a "bad" pump and/or how to get the stupid fan inside to quit making so much noise.

For an external pump that was supposed to be so quiet, it's about the most annoying thing I've ever heard.

Not to be stupid, but I justified the almost $300 I spent on the thing by telling the wifey it would be "super quiet." (my submersible mag pump in oour bedroom is quieter).

any ideas, anyone??? Maybe I can disable the internal fan. Not sure why it's needed anyway (wouldn't the water cool the pump sufficiently??)

Thanks,
Eboman

P.S. new tank pics coming soon.
