I've seen studies that say it does and studies that say it doesn't. There's been at least 3 studies I've read and all have conflicting results. :P

Seems like IO is the most popular because you can get it anywhere and its cost. Some of the more rare salts in my area are Kent and Corallife.

The only problem I have had with IO vs Red Sea is that IO did not disolve completely for me. I always had some left at the bottom of the pail after mixing and powerheading over night. Red Sea was no problem disolving at all.

I had no such problems when using IO. How many pounds/buckets of IO did you go through?

I went through (2) 50 lb sacks and a few of the 25ga boxes. I kept seeing a consistancy of the same and I switched back to Red Sea. I never had any problems at all. The prices is a bit more but well worth it.

I prefer Catalina Water Company natural salt water. But since I don't live on the west coast anymore.... Reef Crystals.

"What Nemo doesn't know is that we've secretly replaced the Reef Crystals salt mix he usually uses with new FOLGER'S crystals. Let's watch!"

I bet more kilm dried (Mortons) is used yearly on marine systems then all the hobbyist brands combined. Heck, we alone use like 12 FULL semi's a year of kilm dried.

I am telling you Reef Crystals is really the newest and best salt out there. No residue in mixing 5 minutes after, and the minerals and vitamins are perfect. I think this salt will emerge as the best on the market over time.
