here i go again

im have some red and green algae in my tank. LOVING IT tho, do not want to get rid of it. Will this algae kill my live rock? by smothering it or anything. Is it beneficial to have a tank covered in algae? Help reduce nitrates etc. I have a feather dusters and algae with some xenia right nowas well as a few sponges, these arent being affected. I have high phosphates bc i initially used tap water, now using distilled tho. My coralline is startign to grow on the glass too! front back and sides too. what should i do?

Of course, it depends on what you like. Although such algae growth will smother the life that could be found on your live rock and in due time, render it into being just algae covered "base" rock save for those critters that are large enough to keep their "rock pore" living space opened up.
When algae dominates, it tends to greatly reduce the diversity of life found in and on the same substrate with the algae. Most notably when the algae are of the filament types.

For a biofilter or biofilm, it should do just fine. You have plenty of other surface area as well within an aquarium, as anything and everything that is put into the water will become coated in a biofilm.
