System...75 gal, with about 2.5 watts per gallon of PC lights, berlin style, prizm skimming with a canister filtered that is maintained often. This system has softies.

This is an established aquarium that I maintain for hobbie cash. The delimma is there is this brown-rust colored film over the rock. I believe it is some kinda algae, but does not appear to be a diatom bloom. I do not have a pic right now...just wondering what it is. I have been doing a lot of water changes. The temp is a little low, I just added a small heater. This system has three power heads with lots of flow. I use instant ocean and good, declor tap water. What could this brown-rust film be? I siphon it out because it comes off the LR easily, but it comes back the next day.

No RO/DI...I will switch it...I know I should...I have to go walmart to get it from the culligan filter.

However, this is darker and more like a sludge than what I believe is a diatom. My experience is the diatoms usually look like a light brown algae and is present with a new set up...this has been established for some time.

Cyano can typically be controlled with increased water flow and more frequent water changes. What are your nitrate levels at ?
