Well guys after 2 and a half years my little 15gal used nano tank looks like its leaking around the bottom. Must be a slow leak because I get no pooling just salt that keeps creeping up the sides from the bottom plastic frame and god knows what its doing to the stand under it? I think I am going to upgrade to a little larger tank maybe 20 to 30 gallon in size any suggestions?

I was going to tease about it leaking after only 2.5 years but then i saw the term "used". If you use a 20 long you may be able to recylce some of your stuff from the 15. If you use a 30 you will probably have to buy all new equipment and more LR. I vote for a 50G :D

I dont know the 37gal is 20 or so inches so thats not so bad, I would be going from 12 inces now.

I have a 58gal oceanic that I have not gotten started on yet. :) Maybe I should have explained my equipment to. I have a 280 watt pendant (150MH 2x65PC), also I have an AquaC Remora Skimmer with a MJ1200 on it. (probably was overkill on a 15) But I am probably all right on the equipment dept for the smaller tanks.

Are you looking for tall or long.
I dont know exactly I would probably be fine with either, I would like to use the stand I have now and it was for a 29gal I had had before with freshwater that also started leaking.

20 long will fit on 29 gall stand.

30 has more surface area and 29 has less surface area but is taller so it is better for viewing.

I'll prolly have to go and look at the tanks and just make a decision. Thanks for the input though guys helps to hear other folks take on stuff. Keep going if you like. I intend to use most of the 15 long equipment mentioned above and all the livestock, corals and rock (22lbs have an extra 3-4lbs in another tank if needed). But I would like to add a bit of livestock to the mix as well later.

I really like 180G tanks. :)
Crap I do like big tanks as well, but man....in my old ass upper level apartment, the folks downstairs would be seeing more of my tank than me. Maybe some day I can get a big one Like Loueys :D

measure the tank you are considering. i just got a 30 gallon oceanic cube and i am having a very difficult time trying to find a 20" light fixture for it. i am wishing it was 24" wde because then i would have many more choices. :(

Nah, 20" is fine. My 40g cube is only 20" so I'm speaking first hand :)

The outer orbit 24" fixtures work too - I use one, there's no spillover of light off the sides.

i've considered that fixture, but what about actinic light?
what will you use for transitions- morning, daylight, evening....
i want 420-460 nm for morning/evening.
do you actually use those LED's?

The one that I use, a 24" Outer orbit model with 1 150w halide, 2 65w PCs and the LEDs (which yes, I do use - they're left on 24 hrs a day) has seperate power cables for each bank of lights. So no problem setting the actinics to come on earlier, go off later, provide transitions.

Outer Orbits are available with either PC or t5 lights to supplement the halide, so you have a pretty wide selection of bulb types potentially open to you to get the look you want.

Only problem with the things are that the tank has to be something like a minimum of 16" front-to-back in order to accomodate the mounting legs, so they really aren't much use except on cubes.

you use a 24" fixture? i don't want that. i want a 20" fixture. i am missing your point. doesn't the fixture hang over the sides of the tank?
