Hi Everyone--

Bad news. After installing the new sump in my 230 gallon tank, I've realized that my drop-in chiller coil doesn't reach, by about a foot or 18" :( The only other option at this point is to run the hose through one of the cabinet doors...which will be soooo uuuuuugly. Can the hose be lengthened? Any other ideas?

Unfortunately, the unit has to be sent back to the factory get get a longer hose installed (if offered). I don't know any drop-in chiller manufactured with detachable hosing. This hose is designed to be very thoroughly insulated. If it's a new unit, I recommend sending it back and exchanging it for an inline version. They can be plumbed to any length and are more efficient. I know these are big and expensive to ship :(

why does it have to go over the edge of the sump?
that wastes so much length. ;-)

just drill a hole in the sump at the right level to accomodate
the legnth you have. dream up some way to make it detachable
for service? while the sump is dry or wet...

good luck. i always thought those pictures of drop ins, the cable
seemed awful short for the price. almost like a slap in the face.

Yes, kind of. He will need to pump all the Freon back into the reservor, cut the line, get a piece that can be used (not easy/cheap to get), weld it back on, pump out the air that got in, and let the Freon out again. I bet it will be at least $100 in material (assume it won't need additional gas, and nothing made out of titanium), and several hours in labor. $$$$

But those cost will still be there if it is shipped back. It atleast worth a phone call.

you should do a inline chiller. You can pump water to a chiller in the next room and you would never have to see it.

Drop in chillers suck. They do not work nearly as well an inline chiller.

Well, the real benefit of a drop-in is that you don't need a pump to push the water thru. Other than this and easier cleaning, there is no other advantage of it that I can think of at this moment.
