i currently have a empty 55 gallon aga - i want to convert my current setup to it, but i want a drilled tank with a overflow- the aga website says that alot of there tanks are tempered glass on the bottom and tempered cannot be drilled-- so is it posible to do a durso style drain with the pipe exiting the bottom back of the tank instead of the very bottom of the tank? or has anyone ever drilled the bottom of a 55 g aga--

i would like to buy a little bit bigger tank ie. the 75g aga megaflow but its 250$ and thats alot to spend if i can get the 55 to work that i already own--yes the 75 is bigger and nicer and has more room to work with but it is alot more money and money is a item that i dont have alot of--any ideas of a way to get the 55 to work or a cheaper way to do a different tank--

i could buy a wier overflow but that is another 100$ so i might aswell buy the 75 megaflow if im already spending that much because a no megaflow 75g aga cost around 100$

building a wier over flow is not in the realm of posibility i dont think i have been drinking tonight but i dont thing i could do that 100% sober- atleast well enuff to make it work day in and day out

looking for thoughts and ideas
thanks

is there a easy way to tell if your tank is a aga or a perfecto--i think its an aga but i wouldnt bet my life on it and i really dont want to get them mixed up if one could be tempered and the other not

Chances are the bottom is tempered. You can easliy drill the side towards the bottom. I plan on doing it to my 55. Got the bit on eBay. I also plan on building the overflow myself.

so the durso style over flow will work if the stand pipe doesnt go through the bottom of the tank? if thats the case it will work

any ideas on what is best to use for the overflow material glass or acrylic-- i have some 1/4 acrylic but not sure if anything will stick it to the glass-?

Hook your pipe into a 90 degree elbow that goes into your bulkhead fitting. I would use acrylic. You'll be able to machine in some "teeth" to keep fish & other creatures out of the overflow. Either use a router or table saw to cut them in. Should be able to silicone it in place.

What you need to do is make a small acrylic box inside the tank.

Also, if you're just starting it, i'd get rid of the 55. the dimensions suck for a reef tank. when you start to aquascape you'll be limited by the 12" width.

i was looking at the same thing a couple of weeks ago...
i eneded up opting for a 75Gal Perfecto, but the whare house F'ed up and they shipped me a 90 instead and still payed for the price of the 75 :)

I was quoted $350 for a 75 with a complete corner overflow kit and drilled tank :)
