Does anyone have a good method for shipping corals? I need to have my tank torn down my next weekend so everything is going. Since I cant find any locals that will SHOW up and take the corals I wil lsell of give some away and ship them.

I dont have time to order special boxes/equipment and the LFS around here do not like to take trade ins.

If it comes down to it in 2 weeks I will have to beg the LFS or have a bucky of coral skeletons. :(

It's really not that big a deal. Get some fish store bags, put some water from the tank, drop the coral in and double or tripple bag. In a regular cardboard box put the corals. Put some packaging materail (packing peanuts) to keep them from getting beat up. If you are sending to the south at this time of year a cold pack would be a good idea because of the heat. Make sure you overnight them.

If you are going to give away stuff I'll take a frag of everything and pay shipping. I'll return the favor if you ever set up again.

Styrofoam boxes, or if they're small enough I've heard people use thermos containers as well. Simply pass on the cost of the containers to anyone you're selling/giving the corals to, as well as next day air shipment.

the corals are more than frags most are about 2-3 inches around.

I will have to get styrofoam and package the heck out of the box so they dont break.

I also have a huge frogspawn and hammer colonies.

green sinularia that is about 8-10 inches tall.

Are you moving, or getting out of the hobby?

If you're moving, since you have a small tank, why not get a large sealable Rubbermaid container, and put everything in it?

When you get to your new location, hang a light over the container with a powerhead or two in it and a HOB skimmer, while you're waiting for your new tank to cycle.

If you're getting out of the hobby - sorry, I am just starting a Gulf of Mexico (25ft depth, and low light) tank, which would probably starve your corals.

check drugstores for little styrofoam coolers to ship in. Lots of drug companies mail drugs in them to keep the temp stable. I've also had corals sent to me in coolers with packing peanuts.

I am moving and getting out for at least a few months until I can recoup some $$$$$$$ to rebuild the tank. It can be anywhere from 2-6 months.

There are a few pieces that I would like a frag of back when and if I do rebuild the tank. Wont have the $$$$$ to buy new corals even after buying new LR and etc.

I got one more chance at a local guy then I will be selling it all off I guess. I will look at the pharmacy for boxes. I am just worried about the colonies getting mangled during shipping.

IF you do ship the colonies just inform the person that damage may occur.

Hey, for 2- 6 months I could stand to have a Rubbermaid "aquarium" in the corner!

No such thing as a safe corner with a 2.5 year old running around.
