Fish list for new tank.

My tank is now finally up and running, i am going to keep a reef tank, the tank is 75 gallon(uk) and i have a 15 gallon sump. I have been thinking which fish to put in for ages and have kept changing my mind, this is what i want to go into the tank;
1 Yellow Tang
1 Flame Angel
1 Regal Tang
2 Common clowns
1 Blue Girdled Angel
I now that there is a slight risk that the blue girdled angel may nip at my corals, other than that are there any suggestions?

If i keep them well fed and purchase them when they are young will this reduce the risk of this?

Yes, both would be beneficial. Having larger corals instead of frags would also be better, since "colonies" can take on occasional nipping better than frags (which can die).

But keep in mind that sometimes there's just no getting around it. It might depend on the fish. But you can always pull them out. Just be prepared in case it happens.

just keep an eye upon them then, just relly like the fish, it is my second choice. Do they have personality? I think itwill really stand out in my tank.

I would stay away from putting 2 tangs in a 75. Just keep it to the yellow tang. In my experience Flame Angels can be hard, make sure you are familiar with thier feeding needs.

The regal and yellow tang are very different in there shape and colour so i did not think that there would be a problem.

I have a friend who kept a regal tang and yellow tang together in a small cube for the longest time with no problems. They've since been moved to a 75 and are still doing fine.

Long term, too small of a tank for that many fish IMO. I would expect running into some trouble keeping the navarchus angel with those tangs, especially the yellow. Navarchus angels are happy being the absolute king of the tank--they can get shy and go on feeding strikes if they're not. In a big tank, they'd probably be fine but I think it's an unnecessary stressor on the angel in that size tank.

Personally, I would not put anything from the Pomacanthus genus in a tank that size. Same for a Regal (Hippo) Tang. A small specimen would be OK for a while, but that tank is too small for the long term IMO.

Matt and Chris are both correct, the Navarchus is not a great idea, nor is the tang you mentioned. Hippo tangs are fragile, and not for the beginner.

Rather than stocking the largest fish you think you can get away with in the tank, think small fish so that you can actually give them an environment to swim around and thrive in.


I assume you do have a quarantine tank up and running...this is a must.
