Can I use RO water right after i change the membrane?

I am going to change my membrane soon. Do I have to let the water run for some time before I can safely use it for my tank, or does it start making good water right away? I have heard some people tell me to "flush" out the first 10 or 20 gallons before use.

I would run ~5-10 gallons through it first.

10 gallons first. There are all sorts of chemicals on the membrane, primarily an antibacterial designed to protect the membrane from decomposing, that you don't want in your water.
