345.00???????
that thing better feed my fish and corals, and do waterchanges for me for that kind of money! 8O

as far as the mj mod, i've seen one variation that has a hinged suction mount as well, so you can angle it somewhat(because once you mount that big impeller cage, i don't think you can direct the flow anywhere but straight ahead).

NO kidding! One of the featured tanks in Advanced Aquarist had two of those in it - they are very small and really throw the gph. Magnetic motors are external so no heat; only propeller in tank...speed adjustable as well.

I just bought a ZooMed Reefsweeper 228 oscillating powerhead b/c they were on sale at the LFS for 50% off. I doubt I'll keep it in the tank, though, cuz it's big and bulky. Besides, if the reviews are right, it'll quit sweeping after about 2 months. It'll make a good salt mixer if it quits sweeping. In the meantime, it seems to be working okay. I've got it wide open (270 gph), and it doesn't seem to be pushing enough water for my tastes. I'd like to move about 600-700 gph in a dispersed fashion...not gonna happen with an unmodded powerhead.

Judging by the amount of rock I have in my tank (~80 lbs Fiji/base in a 50 gal tank) I'm gonna have to go with something small and powerful like one of the Tunze Streams on a controller. The Mjs look like they'd displace about 20 lbs of my rock.

Got it...MJ mod...http://www.reefchili.com/MJmods.html

Sounds and looks like a great mod. Looks comparable to a Stream. My main prob with most of the pumps out there for inducing current is the sheer size of the pump itself. Like to see someone come out with a more affordable version of the EcoTech Marine VorTech Propellor pump. That thing looks sweet and very, very low power consumption.

Here's it is: http://www.premiumaquatics.com/Merc...OD&Product_Code=ICE-VORTECH&Category_Code=Eco

I'll probably go with a couple of MJs aimed at each other, though, cuz I only have small piles of $$.

In the end it will be cheaper to get the good pumps first. I know that it is costly up front, but much cheaper in the long run. I currently have the MJMod with the Oceanflo.com mod(awesome and very professional, but they are temporarily down due to a family illness).
