So, I'm gettin kind of tired of a pendant with my VHO's fixed in a 3 sided canopy. With the HQI and VHO I have a combined 550w over a 24x24x24 cube tank.

Is there a fixture out there that packs this kind of punch?

It doesnt seem like it would be difficumt to make a housing that would actually hold my pendant and the vhos along side of it. Make some legs, just like the coralife fixtures, wire in some fans and off I go.

Any ideas or experiance?

Thanks

If you want a plug n' play type fixture go here: http://www.marinedepot.com/aquarium_lighting_metal_halide_pfo_fixture.asp?CartId= and get ready to spend! You can even put a 400W HQI in there if that's what your inhabitants need.

Personally, I'd go with one of the Coralife/Giesemann/Current fixtures with a 250W HQI and either T5s or VHOs biult in with the LED moonlights. 250W should be plenty to light a 24" deep tank, especially if you have a sand bed taking up the bottom 3-5 inches.

If you want to DIY, rebuild your canopy to house an HQI reflector with your choice of HQI and add in a VHO/T5 tube front and rear, a fan or two and BAMMM! your done. You could even toss an LED or two in there if you want. 8)

You could even use your current lighting like you mentioned. Just mount the pendant externally, but cut a hole large enough for the reflector to fit through. Most of the backside heat would dissipate into the room instead of heating up the tank. That also leaves you more room to put your VHOs inside and stick LEDs, fans, etc inside the actual canopy now that your pendant is mounted externally. Just a thought.

PFO makes some 24" single MH with VHO (or PC .... your choice). It uses 250W, but you may be able to ask for 400W. 250W should be plenty for your tank though.
