looking for some advice on buying a used tank-- my lfs is moving and they said they would sell me there 75g with corner overflow--he originally said around $200 but i can buy a brand new one from the other store in town for $240-- so question is what is a good offer for a 75g overflow used tank? thanks matt

Matt, it depends on what shape the tank is in. Scratches, leaks, brand, and how old the tank is will make a difference for you. $240 isn't bad for a new 75G tank, though. ;)

I always have this fear of old used tanks bursting. I will never buy one. I try to act sane but sometimes...the fear, it's real I tell you.

i'm not afraid of buying a used tank. my 125 was formerly a turtle tank...LOL
meanwhile, just as a quick guide- i had a nice 75 with oak stand and canopy, plain-jane lights, and rena xp3 filter, about a year old, and was a saltwater tank for only 3 months of that. i had it on craigslist for 400.00 OBO, and not even an offer. this wasn't drilled, but we had paid almost 900 for it a year prior.
used tanks are a hard sell. i ended up using the tank as a sump for my 125, and giving away the stand and canopy. :?

I agree. Good deals abound on used tanks. Nothing wrong with them. Though I wouldn't use my grandmothers 55 gal (I think). It was made of iron and the glass was not clear exactly. She bought it in 1930 something. Both long gone. She kept guppies in it. She was serious about breeding them.

i would not pay more then half the price for a new tank. new tank should be 50 percent of new price or lower imho

I feel like a used tank that is only a year or two old, no scratches, no damage, great silicone, that is a reputable brand can be worth a little more than half of the original price. :)
