Has anyone here tried this yet? Seems to be quite an improvement, and have seen it done on needlewheel impellers. However, I haven't seen it applied to standard impellers like an Eheim.

Any ideas?

I've never tried but hear it produces really nice foam. The fear of the mesh getting clogged and my extensive experience with zip ties under duress (it's a product I sell for a living) makes me hesitant to try it, especially when that impeller costs me something like $50 to replace :P

I don't think this mod works on non-needlewheels. The mesh is used in place of the needlewheel spokes in order to chop up the incoming bubbles. It's a nice idea and obvious why fine mesh would produce more fine bubbles then big plastic spokes.

FWIW, I don't need a better performing skimmer :P I've used good skimmers and really top tier skimmers, and I've found little health improvements in better the non-junk skimmers (gasp! :P).

I suppose you're right, Len.

The only complaint I have with my skimmer is the hour it takes to build back up its head after feeding.

I tried it on an old needle wheel that had broken needles. I didn't see much of an improvement. :D
