RO/DI Systems

Hello everyone,

I am curious if anyone out there uses a RO/DI system from www.purewaterclub.com (specifically the pictured model they label as 'Zero 0 ppm RO+(2)DI 125GPD Reverse Osmosis Water Filter [PW-22-42]'). I found them on eBay, and think that they sell a lot of these units.

I am seeking feedback on this product's operation and quality. Hopefully some has someone info...

Well they have 2 resin containers, so yeah, 0ppm isn't exactly a lie, nor is it a meaningful boast.

It's been a while since I've bought membranes, but I think 100gpd and higher ones have a significantly lower rejection rate (90% vs 98%) so you'll go through resin quicker. Also note that rate is for unrealistically ideal conditions.

Other than that, I'm in the camp that they're all basically the same out of the box, how you customize them after you go through the first set of filters is what's going to differ.

So you would suggest getting a system rated for less gpd because of the difference in the r/o cartridges resulting in a less efficient removal substances before the water enters th DI resin?

I realize that 100gpd means that it is about 45-60gpd when you take into account the pressure/head loss and for differences in hardness and other substances in my local water.

I was more interested in finding out if anyone had suggestions or comments for or against this particular system. Or if they would suggest another system.

I am also looking for suggestions when looking for an RO/DI system. (I am using it for my 120gal with a 30gal sump.)

Depends on how dirty your water is to begin with actually.

if you had 500 ppm tds, then 50 ppm would "ideally" get through with a 125gpd, where as only 10 ppm "ideally" with a 75gpd system. If you only had 100 ppm, then you'd have 10 and 2 respectively, which is a considerably amount less. As you can see your resin will still last 5x longer, however if your tds is low to start with then who cares really it'll last a long time.

As to the system, I can't see anything wrong with it.

FYI I run a 75gpd membrane, 3 resin chambers (just because I can damnit! ), and if I turn water on at morning, I'll have a full container 25g by about 10/11pm if its a warm day. More than sufficient for my system (100+50g sump)

I will look into getting a 75gpd unit, which should save a little cash. I think this will also save money on replacing resin because the r/o membranes and all the others last longer (correct?). I am going to get a system with a flushing valve so that the membranes do not get clogged as much.

I will also check what my tds is today.

i have one of those units. i can get 100 gallons a day out of it without trouble. i think it's a great bargain. :wink:

You'll be well advised to get a system with a full size, refillable, vertical DI stage. Horizontal DI is a fundamental configuration error.

We are working with two people at this time to help them reconfigure that very system.
