does anyone have any experience with one of these making any sort of noise and/or vibration?
every 5 seconds or so this one on my GF's tank makes a funny sound and it vibrates against the tank.
the water that is running through it is coming straight from the sump, so it might be a piece of macroalgae that may have gotten stuck in there somehow...that's all i can think of.
anyone?

They are notorious for developing problems due to ca build up. A soak in vinegar may help.

well..i was ruling out the calcium build up theory.
i've not added anything other than what is in the reef crystals, so a calcium build up can't be the issue this early.

anything in there could clog the thing up. sand, salt, any other particle can do it.

Even so, SCWDs are fairly easy to mod. Normally people cut off most of the inlet and replace it with PVC/ABS fittings so that you can open it up when it is dirty to clean it, as well as making it easier to connect to the tubing. They also tend to modify the two outlets to make them a standard size, and a little bigger.
