I am in the process of re-plumbing my return and drain lines. I glued some PVC using the purple primer and PVC cement. After 4 days, I can still smell the chemicals on the new pipes. How long should I wait until I install the new PVC.

Thanks,

I thought you already installed the new PVC???

If you mean how long to wait before filling it up, no worries, the glue is harmless and insoluble in water.

It still smells of chemicals, I don't want the 'toxic' air to get into the tank water, or is this not an issue?

It is not an issue.

If it bothers you that it smells, put a fan by the tank.

Not to beat this into the ground, but the smell is coming from the inside of the pieces of PVC that I glued. I just didn't want the tank water passing throught the PVC if it still smelled of chemicals.

Thanks for the replies

Yeah, after a few days, it should be fine. The VOC smell will linger around for a bit, but if you are worry, put some charcoal/carbon in the filter, and they will take care of any VOC that get into the saltwater. HTH.
