Fishfood Recall

Hey folks I saw something on the news about a company which produces fish food recalling products because it uses a similar substance implicated in the other pet food poisonings/contamination recently. Sorry I haven't researched more specifics but maybe some of you are more informed about this.

I work for a national pet supplier so we get word straight from the FDA when there is a recall.

At this point the only fish food recalled is for feeding fish for human consumption.

If there are any pet food fish recalled items I will pass along.

It actually doesn't matter. All of the dog food that has been recalled was made in the USA.

The issue is they are importing wheat gluten into USA from Chine where the melamine is being introduced.

IIRC the malamine was purposly used by the AC feed producer to boost the N content of the feed. At least that is what I read in several reports. I'll have to dig them up now and post the links

It is happening. Fish food for the aquarium has been recalled today.

The details are still uncertain but it is melamine being found in the foods.

I will post list of food once I have it.

So far it just a few select types of pelleted food.

The initial word is the catfish used for the fish meal portion had melamine added to it.


The thing to keep in mind here, China has been doing this for a long time. It just happened to become an issue because the wheat gluten was infected and killed several cats at the Science Diet feed test facility in Kansas.

This made everyone start looking at other cases of pet deaths through out the country and then looking at all food stuffs imported from China,
