It's been a few years since I used that bulb, as I went from DE 250 to SE 400 when I upgraded the tank.

My experience with 250W DE's are below:

Ushio 10K: very bright, but too yellow for me
XM 20K: more purple than blue
Giesemann Megachrome Blue: quality built bulb; 14k look; lasted a full year
Phoenix 14k: bright 20k look; good for only 6 months

Oh, I thought you were using a 20k bulb with the SE 400.

Which bulbs have you used with the 400 watter?

Here's what I've gone through at 400W SE (PFO HQI ballast):

Reeflux 10K: makes blue/purple pigments explode, but the pink hue was awful. Waiting for a replacement from Vue.
Radium: Great 14k look; but only lasts 6 months
Ushio 14k: Great true 10k look: but only lasts 6 months
AquaConnect: Very bright, but pink
Helios 20k (current): Really blue bulb, much like the Phoenix with this ballast. Probably needs to replaced every 6 months, but it's the 2nd cheapest bulb on this list.

Speaking of the Unarce stamp, some of them have a black line behind it. Look at the first pic. Some of the others ones have it too.
