Hi all, was just wondering do i need to feed my pink tip anemone or will the two clowns hosting in it do it for me? I have tried to give the anemone a piece of prawn but as soon as i do this the two clowns drag it out and discard it , I hope the anemone is going to be ok as it looks a little deflated , not full and puffy like it was when i bought it! That was two weeks ago. any advice woulld be great!! , tnx , blue tang :?

You cannot rely on the clownfish to feed an anemone. None of mine ever have.

Try putting a piece of food in the anemone at night, my clownfish are less likely to drag the food out then.

If it's a Condy, you should feed it. I've found Pacific hosting anemones, on the other hand, don't require targetted feedings. Mine have always grown well without feedings.

I don't think clowns really "feed" their anemone. Use it for a safe place to hide excess food, yes. . .bring food for the sake of the anemone, no. I sometimes have to guard my anemone from its hosting clownfish while I feed it. Either that, or I'll feed the fish first, and while they're busy grabbing food, I'll feed the anemone. By the time the clown gets back to the anemone, the anemone has gotten a good grasp on the food. Some people will use something like those baskets for strawberries to cover the anemone while it's feeding.
