Hi all!

I have been looking at the "Hydor FLO Rotating Deflector" for the end of your power head.
I want to put it on a maxijet Model 600 (160 gph).

I have a 110gph in left corner and maxi 900 (230) in right corner.
I would put the maxi 600 in the middle with the "Hydor FLO".

My other option is to set them on timers (but I might do this any way).
What you think???

Thanks,

Just my opinion, but I'd save you money for a timer and MJ mods :)

The Hydor will almost assuredly lock up on you if you're running a reef tank with calcium dependent livestock. If you don't mind having to clean it regularly, which will eventually become daily, then it's an option. They do greatly reduce the output of powerheads as well.

A Natural Wave Timer would be perfect for your 29g. You could probably find a used one for cheap, too.

So I'm get another pump and 2 timers.
I can only set the timers for 10 mins will that still work?

The 110gph pump will stay on 24/7 the 230 and 160 will be random.
Should I have more flow at night or day (like leave pumps on longer at night)?

Thanks,

15 mins not 10.

I think if I have another pump the flow will be disrupted enough and ever so often one pump will go off.

Well found some good info on the web and turning on and off pumps can rely be bad for the pumps... so I’m going to get an MJ600 and place all the pumps just right and see if I cant get what I want.

NO...NO...NO!!! :D

MJ's are built for that, so take advantage of it! They're like Honda's when it comes to powerheads!

15 minute intervals should be fine. I ran mine at 30 second to 1 minute intervals, when I used to run powerheads.

The impeller actually switches direction, each time an MJ is turned off. So, with a MOD, you can make more use of this variation for maximum flow coverage.

Might sound stupid but why would you want the maxi to switches directions?

MOD? Cant think what this means :? (its right there err)?

You'll find a lot of MODs (modification) kits for maxi-jets. Just google MJ MODS and you'll find out a lot more

I wouldn't use a mod (at least not a prop-mod) on a timer.
Half the time the pump starts up spinning clockwise, and half the time they go counter-clockwise. When using a prop, it means half the time the water blows out from the pump, and half the time it blows into the pump. When it starts going the wrong way (into the pump) the mods usually have an acrylic rod that the prop slams into to get it going the right direction. That 'slamming' can cause quite a racket, and I would hate to have to hear that every ten or fifteen minutes.

OK I’m set ty.

The only modification I would do is make the intake bigger.
I was reading some things on Mj mods, (that’s why I said it was right there) they made the intake bigger by drilling holes.

Thanks guys.
