Funny you should mention that cause I have about one hundred Lbs of legos sitting around. Im sure the rumor that coralline likes plastic is just that...a rumor. People probably only notice the coralline growing on their intakes and plastic parts more because it looks strange. I for one am going to test this theory! lol Lego men, its swimming time!!!!!!!!

I think they might float no?
I used legos as a turtle dock once... yeah... air gets trapped inside and they do float. Once you get all the trapped air out they aren't too bad.. but they do move around very easily. So I'm not sure if using them in place of rock would be a good idea...

<--- has images of a turbo snail moving the entire "lego reef" in her head!

I say you should try it!

Mostly because I want to see what a lego reef looks like! Imagine all the possibilities! You could make a little atoll, you could mount corals on it... hell once they grow in you won't notice the legos! No more worrying about stuff falling over due to bad rock placement, no more worrying about finding that choice piece of rock to "fit" that special area... GO FOR IT!

Of course just checking some numbers found legos are made with similar materials as ABS plastic, which has a density between 1.020 - 1.060 g/cc which might make them float.

never used them in a reef . . . i had a sweet 10 gallon set up with some tetras and an amazing lego pirate ship. I siliconed one of those flat "terrain" pieces to the bottom so that i could lock my legos to the floor of the aquarium . . . kind of like starboard . . . haha . . . yeah I was 12 years old though. cool idea for a reef!
