Spawning Clam

Ugh I had a mass clam spawning event one night. It was not pretty. Then one day I had a mass bristleworm spawning event, another disgusting event.

Your clam looks to me like it either has an idea, or it's the source of a nuclear blast.

A mass bristle worm spawning huh? Sounds cool.

LOL sounds cool, till you have to stick your arm in there. I still shudder thinking about it. There's video floating around on here of it.

Do you have any other clams in your tank also participate? Just curious if any of the spawning events have been successful in someones tank - other than a big breeder.

My tank is pretty small (relatively). It's only a 65g display with a 29g refugium. I had another bivalve spawn too. But it was just one of those little hitch-hiker ones. I'm thinking maybe it was the water change that triggered it...

I hope the clam's okay. Did you do a water change afterwards? Spawning events can degrade the water quality rather quickly. Oxygen levels tend to drop as well.

The clam seems fine. It's never looked ill or unhappy. It looks great today too.

Unfortunately, I don't ahve enough R/O water to do another water change today. But I'll be able to do one tomorrow...

I had several clams in my system when mine happened and one set the others off until it was a regular bivalve orgy. They turned my system into milk and I was very worried so I setup every skimmer I had on the tank for a few days.

I doubt anything would have resulted in some baby clams had I not though.

I'll never forget the first time I watched the mass clam spawning event on the dvd of Wayne Shangs big tank. The music, the clams, the spawning, it was..... 8O LOL.

Haha... thanks (I think). Smell? I actually didn't notice much of a smell unless I got up real close to the tank water... Maybe this clam didn't spawn as much as usual. It only made about 12 or so of those puffs.
