I have two tanks.. A 7 gal(two weeks old) and a 20 gal(one week old) and the ph has always been at 7.8.. I was told microalgae would help but I've had chaeto in there for 2 days and the ph hasn't budged.. I've read that the carbon dioxide in the water could be an issue.. Right now I only have a little internal filter moving water in the 20 gal and a little pump from an old external filter in the 7 gal.. I just put a duel air pump on them, feeding one air line to each tank in hopes of dissipating some of the carbon dioxide, if that is the issue.. I'll check the ph again tonight to see if it helps any..
I'm using the air pump since I can't get to the LFS right now to get powerheads.. And I know water surface movement by air pump is the main way to release carbon dioxide in freshwater tanks..
What else can I do (other than chemicals) to raise and stabilize the ph? Chemicals would be a last resort..
