Bleach?

This maybe a dumb question, but can I use bleach? I have an older micron bag that I use for polishing and cleaning the reef. I remember from having cichlids being told that Bleach will dissipate when left in water for 24hrs. My question is that if I soak the bag in bleach and then soak it in a bucket of fresh water after rinsing it real good, is this ok? With the cichlids it was fine but they are super hardy fish, almost trash fish. Just water does not work for the bag, so I am looking for ideas. What do you all do in this type of situation?

You can, but be sure it has no fragrance or any other additives. To be sure the bleach is gone, you can get some freshwater dechlorinator and swish the bag in a bucket of water w/decholor after you do the bleaching. But, those bags generally don't get that clean and clog up pretty quickly regardless of what you do.

A non-scented version is something that I had never taken into consideration, but it makes sense. On top of that, what is dechlorinator and where would I get it?

most "tap water conditioners" sold in the market, AmQuel, Prime, etc typically have dechlorinators in it to deal with chlorine from municipal water sources.

as far as cleaning those things...

I just toss mine in the clothes washer for about 10 mins with NO DETERGANT of course......

Yeah I have read about the cloths washer idea and that sounds like a good idea as well. Cleaning this bag is not the problem, keeping the tank stable is.

I also place mine the washer turned inside out
It seems to do the job for me.

I turn mine inside out, spray both sides thoroughly with a garden hose nozzle full blast. I do this every day.

I bleach it once a month or so. Soak for 10 minutes in 50/50 solution, rinse repeatedly with hot water, let soak in a 50/50 mix of dechlorinator, rinse again, shake dry. It's good to go.

100 micron sock on a reef tank. I've had it 3 months now and it's looking like I'll need a new one soon.

So more or less I do what everyone is saying. That is the way I have handled this situation in the past. With that, the bag is in a bucket of bleach right now. I want to see how well this process cleans the bag compared to others. Bleach is cheaper then a new bag.
Another topic is that I understand what dechlorinator is, but where do I purchase something like that, and what is the name brand.

I use AmQuel. From what I understand it is basically raw sodium thiosulfate.
