blasto's dieing off?

i have a flat rock with a bunch of blasto's each about the size of a quarter, been in the tank for a few months and 3 days ago i noticed one blasto was showing a very small part of its skeleton, today i see more than half. all my water parameters are good. amonia and nitrites 0, nitrates 10, ph and salinity are in range. what could this be? am i suppose to hand feed them?

Blastos are difficult for me to figure out. I find that once the tissue starts to peel off, there's nothing I can do to stop it. And what aggravates me is that I usually can't figure out why it starts peeling in the first place. Sorry that I couldn't be more help, but I share your frustration.

Does nitrate of 10ppm a bit high even for a LPS tank? :?

I have a blasto that is more than 7 yrs old. But it never really grow much in all these years.

They are somewhat easy to light shock in my experience at least the larger ones - not B.merletti? Start them out low in tank and gradually adjust distance / shading no more than once every week or so.

7e - as for growing I had good luck with spot feeding mine, grew quite readily.

I had a nice chunk of rock with 5 different colors on it. I'm down to 3 as I watched them slowly start die back. Moved everywhere in the tank every couple of weeks and nothing did the trick. Now, it seems to have started to "establish" a little more and I do see some tiny new polyps also. Something upset it, just can't figure out what it was. :?

I had a VERY nice Red blasto polyp divide in to 5.. it started looking bad, and I moved it into MUCH less light and current... its doing great again.
