CHANGE YOUR BULBS!

I just changed out my 400w DE and WOW I was really missing out on a lot of color.

I had had a DE 400w 14k Hamilton lamp in my fixture for almost a year and it had yellowed out quite a bit without my noticing it.

I'll make sure to change it every 7mos or so now.

So... If it's been a while since you changed your lamps DO IT!

Another pertinent tip: when changing bulbs, watch out for bleaching events. I'd personally shorten the photoperiod, or better yet, raise the bulb height a few inches. New bulbs are MUCH brighter then 1 year old bulbs, and I've bleached my share of corals when swapping bulbs. This includes VHO actinics too.
