Do powerheads break-in???

My penguin 1140 all of a sudden blows 2-3x more than when I first installed it less than a week ago. It's actually blowing all the san out of the corner of the aquarium. Before it barely rippled the water now it's crazy.

They do not break in. However, there may have been something blocking the flow or slowing the impeller.

Sometimes when you plug in a power head it won't really work will just kinda rattle....when you unplug a few times it will finally kick in and push water.....maybe this was happening and you didn't notice? Happens constantly with my marineland junk deal....

The pump could cavitate if air was stuck in the impeller chamber. I had a Penguin 1140 for a few years without any problems.

I know about all this, but it's weird. The damn thing was weak and I unplugged it and it went to what I thought was full power, then all of a sudden the other day it doubles it's power at least.

And now it's back down to barely working after a water change. Awesome.

If it has a venturi on it open it all the way, plug it in and unplug it til it works....!

i have maxi-jets. for what it's worth, i have never had a problem with one. my best advice is to buy a mj and end this trouble.

It's made by the same company. It's the same thing with a different name and supposedly more power.

na..look at the 2 together. it's much different. the penguin is 2x the size.

i don't know..i googled maxijet and came up with aquarium systems. :?
