Now, strictly hypothetically, let’s say some was in oh, I don't know, Jamaica. While they were there, let’s say they went diving. During the dive an amazing snail shell might end up in a pocket.

Now, since this is "hypothetical", what would someone in that situation do if they wanted to soak it and clean it prior to putting in their own reef tank?

Hydrogen peroxide is a good disinfectant. White vinegar will also generally kill most salty critters.

Oh, and it's hypothetically legal AFAIK ;)

If you were to be hypothetically coming through Florida customs then any sort of dry trinket could be passed off as a tourist novelty. But then again if you were seeking any sort of shell you could just go to one of our billions of tourist shops here in Florida and you would find the same thing, just in bulk. However. Hypothetically of course !Dont! take anything alive if you are coming through customs. Florida is a bit touchy on this subject.

Just check first I think there is a ban on queen conch shells coming into the country. Im not positive but I think there is.

Years back I brought home some turtle grass home from Puerto Rico. One hermit crab came as a hitchhiker. I still have them to this day.

You can see the grass growing on the left. I have a lot more of it now. The pic is a little old.
