I have two firefish that I always thought hated one another. But in the past month, they're sleeping in the same hole. For the past two weeks, one disappeared and the other looks really beat up (thrashed fins). Finally, today, I see the missing one reappear from the hole they share, but it won't venture out more then its body length.

I'm wondering if the hiding specimen is guarding some eggs. The other firefish (the one that is beaten up but otherwise doing well) still goes back into that hole to sleep.

Generally the "long shot" does not aid in reproduction...

I have never seen CB firefish. Do they exist in the market?

If I remember correctly, there is a larva stage that makes them impossible to grow to matured firefish.

I think you are referring to the "kindling" stage.

That is cool! If you wake at night, a few hours after the lights go out, tak a flashlight and see if you can attract the larvae to the light? How long has she been guarding the clutch?

She (or he?) has been in the same hole for over a week now. I thought this specimen had died, then now it's popping it's head out of the hole every few minutes to each any food that passes by. Never strays far from the hole though.

So, did you get up in the night to look? I wonder if they could be like convict cichlids, where the mom keeps them in the nest when they are small?

Got rotifers?

Len did you notice if the female ever became swollen with eggs?

I would think one is just dominating the other - If they are breeding that would be very exciting though.

I agree with the others that a pic would be nice.
