Hello!

I have a 55 gallon tank that has been up and running for a couple months, and was curious where my specs lined up in regards to amount of light, water current, and type of substrate most commonly used. I have just upgraded my lighting to 4 110W VHO's giving me 8 watts/gal. I have two Seio 820's at 820 gph each, and one Tunze Stream 6000 at 1850 gph on a wave maker. The substrate is about 40lbs of crushed coral, and 20 lbs of sand. I am thinking about adding in an additional 20lbs. What do you guys think? Is it medium lighting, high water flow, and a decent substrate? Thanks!

Welcome!

I agree with 'trido'....IMO you should jack up the lighting, but that depends on what type of corals you want to carry.

Do you know what you're going to have in your tank?

Thanks for the responses! I'm pretty much planning softies, and some LPS (candy cane corals, open brains, and such). I would like to try some SPS one day, but I've never really had great experiences with MH.

i think you're fine for LPS...the current my be a bit much for them...
ALSO, if i remember correctly, you ARE NOT suppose to use a STREAM on a wave maker.

The one tunze sells never cuts the unit completely off... This is a VERY expensive pump to burn up like this!

I might ditch one Seio to lower the flow a bit. The Stream I got was a package with their electronic controller, so I'm pretty sure it will be ok. No way am I hooking that up to a regular wavemaker!
