Originally I bought a stalk of xenia 6 weeks ago. It did very well at first and multiplied to four stalks. However lately it is not doing well anymore. Please see attached picture. They are closed most of the time and stopped pulsing. I have tried using carbon, adding iodide but none helps. Below is my tank parameters:

ph = 8.4
ammonia = 0, nitrite = 0, nitrate = 0
alk = 3.5
calcium = 320
other corals in the tank are doing well:
mushrooms
star polyps

Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

If anything on a reef can be compared to a woman, xenia would win hands down. Xenia can be moody and tempermental, but when it is happy, it surely is happy and surprisingly so are you.

I have found the location near the top of the tank so it can reach for the surface and some current is it's joys. If it is unhappy, move it, wait 2-3 days, move it again. Some people can grow it and others can't. Nobody really knows why.

I could go on and on but it's late. Keep everyone updated. This is really the best board for guidance and knowledge...hands down. Hey, there is that funny saying again. I don't even know what it means. 8O

How's your lighting? I believe they are almost totally dependant on symbiotic algae (zooxanthellae) for nutrition, therefore, they should need moderate to strong lighting.
