has anyone had any experience with these? i am considering a 180, or possibly even a 240 if i get good reviews.
i might be upgrading to a 150 display, with a large sump, and i want something that will handle 250+ gallon system easily, and not be thousands of dollars to purchase. any help would be appreciated.

I've used them (the 180 model). It worked great, but I ended up going with a needle wheel because it was quieter and higher efficiency. But the AquaC EVs produce a lot skimmate

thanks len. then...an addition to this question would be:
what skimmers can you all recommend for a 250+ gallon system?

and, the cons of using 2 smaller skimmers, instead of 1 big, expensive one.

Two skimmers = twice as many things that can break and twice as many things that need servicing. Two skimmers is less efficient and costs more for the same performance. And one skimmer usually has a tendency to "shut down" the other's foam production.

For a 250g, I'd go with the EV240, Euroreef ER1615 or ER1617, Deltech AP851, PM Bullet 2 or 3, Octupus 200 or 250, or ASM G4.

I agree. you really can't beat the performance of a needlewheel skimmer.

now len chose some very nice skimmers. If i had to add one more I would consider a bubblemaster250 (rated at 500g) and an H/S 200x2-F2001

deltec and H/S are the close running ferrari's of skimmers. tough choice to make with the choices listed.

FWIW the H/S and the Bubblemaster have the lowest power consumption....
