my P.tang that i have had for almost 2 years was found dead by me in th tank yesterday.i had i issue with my top of not adding water and the tank had got a few gallons low. could the swing in salinity be the reason? idk im stumped on this one.

In a tank that size, being a few gallons low shouldn't effect salinity drastically enough to kill anything IMO.

Not sure what caused it, but sorry to hear you lost the fish.

Sorry about your loss. Was its body normal? Have you added any new rocks or algae lately? I've lost tangs to newly introduced algae.

Purple tangs come from the red sea, so they tolerate very warm salty water.

I've had mine for 7.5 years now. I think the main trick is making sure it has enough greens to eat.
