I plan on putting an overlow in the corner of my 20 gal tank.. I'm going to simply use a piece of acrylic sheet cut to the size I need and just block off the corner.. The blocked off area will be a triangular shape.. The trouble I'm having is that the tank is full of water so I need something to attach the acrylic to the glass and still be safe for the tank..

maybe weather stripping? you know that rubber stuff around the windows. you could use this temporarily too as well, just enough so you can get the corner dry and then silicone it in from the inside of the corner. i'm not if there is a possibility of silicone leaching some chemicals into the water while it dries, but I think if you use the 100% silicone stuff, you should be ok.

If it's a 20 gallon, and I didn't want to buy a new tank I would remove everything and stick it in a rubbermaid container while I fix the tank.

I would take Trido's word for it though

Epoxy putty would be your best bet. It may not work, but it might. :D

You'll need to seam the entire length of all three joints.

Are you going to drill the tank? If so consider using a small acrylic box instead. Dill the box and tank (on the back) the same size and set the locations so the top of the box is where you need it. You are going to need a bulkhead fitting any way so get an extra gasket. Place the bulkhead fitting through the box with the gasket under the flat part. Put the other gasket between the box and tank. Put the assembly in place, put the nut on then secure.

I have had good luck using silicone to put together glass and acrylic. But it's a drain of sorts (top portion of the glass baffle that divides my fuge and return section in the sump) and it would not make a difference if it leaked. :D Now, if you're asking about something that cures underwater, you might try what Thales said (epoxy).

I plan on sectioning off the corner and then using a pump/powerhead to push water up and out of the tank via a tube or pipe.. Maybe a little live rock rubble above the pump.. Then off to the fuge it will go.. The fuge is my 7 gal that sits right next to it.. I don't want to hide the fuge either because I like the cheato.. The return to the tank will also be via pump/powehead.. I'm also thinking of putting a small overflow of the same format in the fuge.. Yeah, maybe a little unnecessary but I want to try to avoid flooding as much as possible.. The drsfosterandsmith.com website has some kind of epoxy that says it cures underwater.. Has anybody tried this?

I am a little confused about what you are trying to do. If the seal between the acrylic and the tank doesn't have to be water tight, epoxy might work. If you need the seal to be water tight, don't mess around - drain the tank and do it right.

i believe they are wanting to build in an overflow, in which case they will also need to drill, with water and animals still in the tank!

it just won't work... sounds messy, dangerous to the integrity of the tank, and it will be impossible to get a tight seal with the corner overflow.
