lighting question

I was searching for metal halides and i came across these.

I was wondering if these would be the same as the ones made for aquarium lighting if put in a fixture and hung above the tank. If not whats the difference?

no. they are not the same. you need a specific color temperature for what you want to achieve.
different bulbs emit different colors. some are subtle, while others are more pronounced. for a reef, you want to shoot for something around 10,000k or above (k=kelvin).
it doesn't say on that website, but i bet that bulb is about 2500k.
actually, not too long ago, when i started my tank, i bought a fixture from a hydroponics website and put it on my tank. luckily, i didn't have any corals that were extremely sensitive at the time, but they sent me a plant grow bulb(it looked like that one) which was 3500k i think. it was bright, but it was extremely yellow. that light is meant for plants, not corals.

i am assuming you meant for a "reef" aquarium. otherwise, if you don't plan to keep corals, that light will be fine, except for the fact that there is no reason why you would need a metal halide over a tank that didn't have light sensitive animals.

alright i just couldnt find a difference even tho i knew there had to be one because these are pretty cheap. btw nice tank i rely liked it. thanks
