Hello,

I'm Patrick From France. You are probably aware that French aquarists are using KH instead of meq/l for the measure of carbonate alcalinity. I understood that you, in the US, are actually using meq/l and also that there is an equivalence from one unit to the other one. Since this meq/l unit can be used for measuring either the "total" alcalinity or the "carbonate" alcalinity, I'm a little bit confused.
So my questions are:
when you are speaking about alcalinity which alcalinity are you speaking about ? (even if for me, the total alcalinity is more relevant than the other one)
And, if you are dealing with total alcalinity, is the equivalence I was speaking about (1meq/l * 2.8= 1KH) the right correspondence ? (corollary: what are the figures you are using supposed to stand for, total or carbonate alcalinity?)

Thanks
