Has anyone ever thought about using the bottom of the overflow in a reef ready tank as a refugium? My tank has been running for 4 yrs. and i have about an inch of soft sand/silt built up. If i look from the bottom sump area up, i can see spahgetti worm trails. Every time i change my filter sock it has tons of copopods in it, so im sure they get in there too. Im just wondering if anyone has ever purposely put live sand/rock rubble down there....instant refugium..?

my overflows have very little flow towards the bottom. i would think it wouldn't work as well as the conventional method of in-sump fuge's.
you want to raise copepods? but then when they get sucked down to the sump, they have to make it through the skimmer AND return pump before they make it back to the display.
that would also prevent the use of a filter sock.
