Nothing much different from what you had. Maybe just a tweak here or there to suit my style.

the tank I have - its what goes in it I am looking for.

Since we are not moving I am goign to rebuild the tank possibly from scratch. I am planning on keeping the fish I have and maybe some of the SPS if they will recover.

I will definetly get all new LR and sand.

Just wondering on what to get.

How long does it really take to cure shipped LR?

The sand will be a bag or two of Natures Ocean sand.

If I were setting up a new tank. I would get the following items.

  • Lumenarc DE pendant, or PFO pendant, icecap ballast, phoenix 14K 250w
190 watts of URI VHO actinic with and icecap 440
euro reef RS 80, then I would do a recirc mod on it
or the octopus skimmer Snowmansnow has on his tank (he seems quite happy with it)
    400 watts of heaters
    300GPH return pump (ehiem)
A tunze 6100 or hydor 4 for mega flow across the back
two hydor 2 or two tunze nano streams on a wave controller about midway across the front
A mix of 70lbs of figi select, marshall select (or plate) and tonga branch in that order from greatest to least
about 1.5 inches of sand (and a sleeper/diamond goby to sift it)along with the typical cleaner crew.
    A carbon reactor.
A Calcium reactor or Kalk reactor. Probably not both
    ATO system
Etc.. Etc.. you already have the little things.

I did it like this!

I didi it like that!

I did it with a wiffle ball bat!

29bench.jpg

tank is three sided starfire, eurobraced. external overflow. Closed loop with an oceans motions. (pump is eheim 1262)

stand and canopy (and 29gallon top off bench) are maple and walnut.

Lights:
two lumenarc mini's with 150w sockets retro'd.
one 24w t5 actinic on a workhorse 3 ballast. (room to add one more bulb and not change anything
three LED moonlights
fans in canopy.

Sump:
24x15x16 acrylic sump with area to grow macros.
Skimmer is deltec mc500 in sump
return is another eheim 1262

I have an aquacontroller junior. Top off will be a litermeter when I steal it from my current tank. Right now it's just dump a bunch o ro water when the micro bubbles start.

'new 58 starfire' thread in DIY. . .

Looks good.

I guess I should start it all over with what I got. Donate all the corals/fish away to whoever wants them. Throw out the rock and scrub the tank down. Order new LR and start over.

After 6 months then I can look to buy some corals and fish again.

Rob, I'm sure you can sell your fish, corals, and rock if that is the way you want to go. Be open about it. But people will still want it. :)

Sell - haha - I had the stuff listed on the local reef club's site with allot of maybes with not one to show up for the stuff. I dont want to ship because I dont have the time or resources to do it.

I would like to keep the fish and most of the corals (if they would recover in my tank) but I need the tank to recure/cycle the new rock/sand/water.

Who has the best LR? Don't want to take ANY chances.
