That sounds really dumb, so let me explain.

I know H20 is really not just H20--it's a combination of H20 molecules and a very tiny fraction of H+ and OH- ions.

Likewise, H2CO3 in solution is not all H2CO3, some of it is H+ and HCO3-, some is 2H+ and CO3(2-). I'm just not familiar with how much of it will become H+ ion at the concentrations we're talking about.

I'm vaguely remembering things like pKa values and equilibrium equations but mostly drawing a complete blank. Time to do some reading...

Look what I started. I am just going to leave my skimmer on 24/7 like I have always done. However;if you read my next post, you will understand why I was going to try this.
