Hey guys,

So my tank (55 gallon) has been running since mid August. Everything has settled quite nicely. I still have high nitrates (around 10-15ppm), but that's mostly because I haven't had my skimmer running since I was doing some upgrades on it, etc and I haven't done a water changes in about 3 weeks. So now I'm thinking of starting to stock this bad boy. I'm thinking of start buying animals at the beginning of November. I want to start with adding a pair of clowns, but before I do that I was thinking of getting a coral for their home, so I need help deciding which one to pick. I'd like to have a green coral if possible, I think that green contrasts with orange very well, and I'd like it to be relatively soft so it waves in the flow, sort of like anemone. Do you think this is a correct path to take? or should I get clowns without coral? also could you recommend some good coral for beginners? I have a pretty decent light setup, 216W of T5s, so I think I can do most stuff except stuff that demands very high light.

Thanks.

Why do you want a coral instead of an anemone? I would think a green bubble tip anemone would be good. If you have to get a coral, maybe a green torch. The clowns may irritate it though. I've also seen them show preference for Sarcophyton leathers.

I've kept bubble tip anemones in a 20g with 2 36w pc lights and had them split several times. If you don't have much light, just feed it more. Once it finds a place it likes, it probably won't move. Mine never move.

i have kept several differnt types of corals with my anemone in a 55. It depends on how crowed the tank is.

well i'm trying to figure out if my light would work for anemone. I have this unit: http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/p ... atid=12772

It's the 216W model, not the 400W like I said before :). Do you think this will work fine for an anemone? I would like it not to move around and screw up my idea of landscaping. Also what should I get first? the clowns or anemone? also does each clown need a separate anemone, or will one anemone work for 2 clowns? will they fight over it?

If you like green, then green sinularia finger leathers are quite hardy, and I think a clown would enjoy one. Although, you really cant predict what corals a clown will host in, I have had them "host" on my powerhead before.

What sort of light do you have? I wouldn't want my anemone to go up to the surface like yours did, I'd like it to sit in one spot.

I had 4 65 watt pc. it also was the type of anemone, LTRB. I tried to set it on the bottom and the rocks. It just liked it at the top were the water flowed most and maximized lighting.
You should research them all and see what will work for you. :)

That is plenty of light for a green or rose colored bubble tip anemone. This species prefers to settle in an area where the bottom of its foot is more protected, so it is not likely to try to stick to the side glass up near the top of your tank. It will likely prefer a nice crevice in which it can draw into, but still be able to expand fully in the light. If you place it in a place such as this initially, and begin to feed it as soon as it is acclimated well and will accept food, you will likely be able to get it to stay in that general area.
