I just purchased, and was told to put him 1/3 of the way up from the bottom of the tank. I have him on the rock work and when he expands, the tissue expands onto the rockwork.

Tank specs: 180 gal, 3 X 250 MH 10K bulbs with actinics, closed loop recirc system.

My question: is it bad to have him there, or should I move him to the bottom on the substrate? He has full polup expansion with medium flow going by him.

Also, how often and what should I feed him?

Thanks for the replies in advance.

With your lighting, it really can go just about anywhere in your tank. I normally put open brains on the bottom substrate. I've seen them in the wild both on sandy bottoms and on rocks, so they don't really seem to have a natural preference. If your's is doing well in its current spot, you could just keep it there. The only concern is if it is getting too much lighting without acclimation. Watch for bleaching.

Feeding them once a week is plenty, but they can go unfed and still do extremely well. I personally don't feed my LPS anymore.
