i had a very nice birdsnest frag with bright green polyps that was doing very well. it was mounted to a rock, and i had it placed somewhat high on the rockwork. apparently, either a snail or the algae blenny knocked it off the rock, and it landed touching my acan lord. it wasn't more than a few hours later that i found it. the acan was attached to it like fly paper. when i ripped the birdsnest loose, half of it was a pure white skeleton. the acan stripped it clean, down to the bone 8O

just a warning not to place acans too close to other corals.

and a question- should i cut the still living branch of birdsnest away from the completely dead part, or just leave it alone and see what happens?

Heheh yeah, general rule of thumb LPS beats SPS anyday. If you see sweeper/feeder tenticles come off, they're going to be eatting good.

That being said I would cut off the branch, but that's just me, algae will form on the dead part in my tank much faster than the coral can reencrust over the skeleton.

:( sorry to hear that! I would cut off the denuded part of the birdsnest as well.

Hey X, funny you should bring that up. I have a 2x2 chalice frag laying on a rock. Fit pretty good for like a week.

Just last night it fell off onto my red lobo. The lobo tore the damn thing up. Rip, rip, rip.

Got it in my fuge now.

Good luck...

Ahh yes..

Tough day in Jims reef today. After the chalice incident...

I picked up a beautiful purple with blue polyps monti cap, bout 5 inches round.
As I'm gluing this piece in a glob of super glue gel drifts into the water.
My powder blue tang decided he liked how it looked. He ate it. He spent the next half hour destroying my tank trying to get that glue outta his mouth. He managed. Very trying times today though :D

Get some superglue in your mouth. You'll do the same thing!

(it still instantly bonds skin, even on your tongue)
