Chemical Question about Phosphate

I have been told several times within the past couple of months that adding Kalk to the tank precipitates Phosphate. Does anyone know how this works?

i think it attaches itself to the kalk making it easier to be removed

That is true, but if you are wanting to reduce phosphates GFH media (Phosban, Rowaphos, twopartsolution.com generic, etc) would be more effective. The problem with precipitating it is that is can be released back into the water in the future if conditions in your tank change or you decide to stop using lime.

It is one of Craig Bingman's that the pH condition precitate out the phosp., and the particulate of phosp. will be removed by protein skimmer.
