I was planning to do a water change next week, but I found out today that I only have enough salt if I mix two different brands from opened bags I have around. Is there a problem doing this? I can order more salt, but it feels wasteful to throw out good salt mix. Oh, the salts I have are Tropic Marin and Instant Ocean.

I was planning on switching salts a few months ago, and other reefers suggested doing a 50/50 mix of both salts, and then gradually bumping up the salt ratio of the brand I wanted to switch to until eventually the new brand was what I would mainly use.

I decided not to switch afterall because I didn't want to possibly disrupt the positive progress of my tank. Good Luck!

When I switched from Kent Marine to Seachem Reef I didn't see any changes at all in my tank. They're both good quality salts, and even my calcium levels stayed about the same. I heard of mixing 50/50 as well, but since I do 10% weekly changes I figured I was making a small change anyways.
