What is the algae that is really low profile, bright burgundy, and looks like fibers? I have them in a couple of pieces of rock in my tank. So far, they don't seem to be invasive in the sense that I have them 'co-exist' with some of my corals (mostly zoas). They don't grow out, they just seem to spread slowly. I don't have a problem with them unless I should. ;)

Can anyone give me some info and if necessary, how to get rid of it? (No problems with any other algae except your average film algae between glass cleanings)

Is it a dense turf? Here is a picture of the stuff I had. You can see it in the margins around my green star polyp. I don't know its name.

I had this stuff in my tank for about a year and a half. It will not overgrow healthy corals or even other algeas, but it is a nussiance as can eventuallly cover every other space available. It's almost impossible to pull off by hand too. After rigorous water changes and lots of changes to my maintainence habits, I stopped it's growth and even thinned it quite a bit in my 29 gallon. When I upgraded to a 75 gallon, my yellow tang finished off the rest.

Kind of like that but its stays low to the rock. Really low to the point where I wouldn't even be able to grab it. Like kudzu. I haven't seen my sailfin touch it. :?

That picture was taken when it was at its worst. Its about 1/4" in that picture. When I first bought my tang, I didn't think it ate that stuff either. It would seem to ignore the algea and rarely give a little nip at the rock. After a couple weeks though, I notice the lawn slowly get mowed and all of it that's left in my tank is only about 1/32" tall.

If it's the same stuff, your tang or something else might be eating it and you just haven't noticed.
