Hey guys,

Here is a question I asked on IRC, but nobody responded :(

what is a coolest looking/interesting creature that I could put into a 55 gallon tank that's only 2 months old? It's getting dull and I'm loosing patience, but I don't want to add fish yet, so I'm hopping to spicy it up a bit ;)

I know i can add corals and what not (leathers), but they're not so interesting I'd like something that moves around and has some personality :). Any idea what I could add?[/quote]

What is that? will it overtake the tank? and what sort of light should I need? also i was looking more along the lines of a critter that could entertain me, just so that my impatience doesn't get better of me :)

thats a Pom Pom Xenia. I don't know the exact one, but I actually prefer the whiter one. Mine is a bit pink and the white ones that I have seen are larger and make more fluid pulses. I don't know if this is true, but this is from what I have seen. I read that Xenia's require an established tank, but IMO they seem very hardy. They grow fast and can take over the tank. Look into it, offer is still there.

For what you're looking for. I thought Emerald Crabs would be cool, and they have a positive function in the tank. Unfortunately, I rarely see them. Shrimps tend to be picky, so maybe you should wait a bit.

IME, during the first few months of my tank the fishes tended to be more finicky about the water condition than corals. This included shrimps. Hardy corals will survive. I have a leather too, but I just cut it for a trade. It's a green polyp leatherstool, and it's very pretty.

I was looking into one of those leathers at the LFS. Maybe I could get a small piece of your coral and see how things go from there before I start buying all sorts of corals.

As far as the emerald crabs go they seem pretty cool. They have them at Blue Sierra Exotics. It's in Issaquah so it might be a bit difficult for you, but my work is there so I can pick them up after work.

My leather won't be ready for a few months though. I have 2 emeralds in my tank.

Have a smaller tank but after 2 months added a kenya tree first, toadstool a few weeks later and some zoas a few weeks after that. Also with a few various snails and hermit crabs (my personal favorite). I find plenty of "personality" with the creatures I have. And the numerous hitchhikers I have found.
Try some things out.
